Every year, I always find that I fall behind on music. It's an inevitability. I download maybe a hundred albums per year, then end up listening to maybe ten of them. In 2017, I have decided I want to become more well-rounded when it comes to my entertainment. I want to keep up with the films, albums, TV shows, books and video games that are released throughout the year, without becoming overwhelmed by them in December of 2017.
I feel like I have a pretty strong knowledge of the pasts of most entertainments.
There are huge gaps in my music knowledge that are incredibly embarrassing to me. The only two Beatles albums I've listened to are The White Album or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I;'ve never listened to an entire album from The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Michael Jackson, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie, Prince, Pink Floyd and tons of other legends that I should know by now, but don't.
In 2017, I am going to do my best to reach a goal I have tried multiple times and given up each time. I want to listen to every album in the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. I have tried this multiple times, never getting past the 500-401 beginnings.
I will be using the 2012 updated list, simply because there are more albums I already love scattered throughout that will make the process a bit more interesting for me. My plan in every day throughout 2017, I will chip away at this list, going from 500-1, record my thoughts for each album, and continuously rank the list by how I would rank these 500.
The first ten I will listen to are:
500. Outkast - Aquemini
499. B.B. King - Live in Cook County Jail
498. The Stone Rises - The Stone Roses
497. The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
496. Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs
495. Bonnie Raitt - Give It Up
494. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
493. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
492. Eurythmics - Touch
491. Albert King - Born Under a Bad Sign
Let's see how far I can get this time.
